Do you serve the children snacks?
Not directly. Children may be escorted to the Smoothie Bar by parents to purchase snacks, but they must return to the child care are afterwards, unless you are leaving The Club.
Does my child need to be potty trained?
No. We ask that children arrive to our Kid Zone with a clean, dry diaper. We have a restroom equipped with a changing table located within the child care area to make things convenient in the event we need to change your child while in our care.
What if my child is sick?
Manhattan Athletic Club strives to maintain a safe, healthy and hygienic environment for all of our children and members, alike. To protect the health of every child, we do not permit sick children in the Kid Zone. In the event we determine a child is sick, we will ask the parent to remove the child from Kid Zone and refrain from bringing the child back to the Club until the child is symptom-free for 24 hours. Our child care staff can provide a detailed list of exclusion symptoms upon request.
What if my child feels that he or she is too old to be in child care? What activities are available that can keep such a broad age range of kids entertained?
While we sympathize with the parent that faces this question, you can rest assured that we take every measure to accommodate the full spectrum of age ranges we supervise from an entertainment perspective. We have an array of G-rated or PG-rated Bluray movies, a wide variety of books, a Wii Fit gaming console, and free Wi-Fi—should you choose to permit your child to bring his or her computer, tablet, cell phone, or gaming device of choice. In a best-case scenario, your child will engage with others, play games, and develop social interaction skills.
Can my child bring his or her favorite toy?
We know that many children have favorite toys and games at home. To ensure that all toys are age appropriate and meet our standards for cleanliness, safety, removable parts, etc., we will allow outside toys upon the condition that they are first inspected and approved by the child care staff.
If my child is 12, can we make an exception for him or her and let them use the Club?
This is a question handled on a case-by-case basis by upper management; there have been exceptions made in the past. Any under-13 child granted a Club usage exception must gain approval through an extended period of direct supervision by a MAC certified personal trainer. Further, he or she must be under the direct supervision of his or her guardian at all times while using the Club. Other rules and restrictions may apply.
What are the qualifications of your child care staff?
All employees in the child care facility are given thorough professional background checks, and like all team members at the Club, they are also CPR/AED certified. In addition to hiring team members with training and education in child care, we hire staff that love working with children and show patience, compassion and enthusiasm. We want nothing but the best of care and safety for your loved ones, allowing you to give maximum focus to your fitness activities.
Does your fitness center have any fitness programs tailored for kids?
In the past, we have done these programs seasonally based on demand, and that is how we expect things to continue. If the demand for such initiatives were high enough to merit regular programming, we surely would add these programs on a permanent or semi-permanent (seasonal) basis.
