Perhaps you prefer some time away from the pure fitness or sports aspects of the Club. If so, we offer some stimulating competitive gaming activities, such as Table Tennis and Foosball; alternatively, you could enjoy a smoothie, snack, or Starbucks® coffee in our free Wi-Fi café area. For those interested in maintaining that healthy skin glow year-round or for setting a base tan prior to Summer or vacation time, we offer both stand-up and lay-down tanning beds with very affordable & flexible packages.

Table Tennis

Table tennis or Ping-Pong can be traced back to the 1880’s, and it has been an Olympic sport since 1988. It is played by people of all ages and can provide a healthy workout and improved hand eye coordination. The sport is active, fast paced and exciting. Unfortunately, there are a limited number of places to play in New Orleans with adequate space, quality equipment and plenty of tables.

Manhattan Athletic Club is proud to be the only Westbank location cited by the New Orleans Table Tennis Club as a Top Ten place to play in the greater New Orleans region. We have one competition table always setup for play in the recreation area, and we have 2 more competition tables folded and ready for use upon request—simply ask the front desk about setup options for these additional tables.

Table tennis is governed by the International Table Tennis Federation, a worldwide organization founded in 1926. The table tennis official rules are specified in the ITTF handbook, viewable here:

Foosball

We feature a Tornado® Foosball table for your enjoyment in our recreation area, designed to accommodate 2 to 4 players at a time. Tornado® tables are widely considered to be among the best in the world with respect to craftsmanship and durability—a table that professional players not only compete on but often keep in their homes, as well.

Foosball, also known as table football, is often played for fun in pubs, bars, workplaces, schools, and clubs with few rules. Table football is also played in official competitions, organized by a number of national organizations, with highly evolved rules and regulations.

Generally, shots where the the rod exceeds a full 360-degree rotation before (or after) striking the ball (“spinning”) are considered illegal. While this rule is generally ignored by amateur players (mostly unaware of the rule’s existence), we care about member safety, and “spinning” can lead to a few hazards—to the players, spectators, and definitely to the table itself, however durable. While we encourage you to relax, have fun, and enjoy the game in the manner you prefer, if interested, here is a link to the official rules of foosball by the International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF):

Tanning

Manhattan Athletic Club has some of the best indoor tanning equipment and lotion selection in town. We have two lay-down tanning beds (15 mins max) and two deluxe stand-up tanning beds with internal changing stations (10 mins max), and we sell everything you need to tan safely and effectively.

Our staff consistently attends tanning seminars to become certified to give you the best advice, whether you are a frequent tanner or trying to get your base tan for vacation or the summer. MAC offers single or multiple tanning sessions, as well as unlimited monthly or yearly packages for members. Ask about our current promotions!

Pro Shop

The MAC Pro Shop provides a full selection of health and fitness supplements. All of our products are of elite quality. We carry supplements ranging from whey protein isolate to fat burners, active wear such as Jock Sox™, MAC logo T-shirts, caps and gym bags, and weightlifting gear such as weight belts, lifting gloves, and specialized straps—built for the truest of pros.

Starbucks® Café with Free Wi-Fi

Our Café is always open to members and while it features Starbucks® coffee and free Wi-Fi, you can also enjoy a pre-formulated or custom smoothie from our Dr. Smoothie® juice bar, or sample our variety of healthy bars and tasty snacks.

We also recently started carrying the Protecarb® line of wholesome, portion-controlled frozen entrées—these gluten free, satisfying meals are made with all-natural ingredients, contain 35 grams of protein and the ideal balance of complex carbohydrate your body craves.
